OBJECTS3

product design   .    5th bachelor semester

You’ve stumbled upon a secret project. Enjoy the scroll!

During my year abroad at the Shih Chien University in Taipei, I had the chance to study a new design discipline for a semester. Therefore, I decided to participate in industrial design, as it is one of the most well-known courses in this university. Working in a tightly compressed rhythm, I designed different objects, which I then prototyped. This resulted in these 3 objects.

This project demonstrates my eagerness to explore diverse design fields through hands-on work. My industrial design semester deepened my understanding of user-centric and intuitive design, enriching my skills as a communication designer.

1  .  Clinical thermometer
At the time this product was created, the Covid pandemic impacted a lot on my daily life in Taipei. In order to combat the pandemic, my temperature was measured daily using contactless thermometers. In this process, the information collected is very intimate, as it is personal data that is taken directly from one' s face. Moreover, one shares it with a stranger without receiving any information about one's own temperature. I designed this thermometer with the intention of making this communication more friendly and dialogue-oriented.

Tools used 3D Printing, Cinema 4D, Foam modeling

Target group People in public spaces where daily temperature checks require respectful, human-centered interaction.

2  .  Manual coffee press
Under the task of designing a coffee machine with simple usability, I came up with this manual espresso press. When designing the machine, it was important to me to avoid electricity as much as possible, an effective and sustainable way to avoid future e-waste. It also creates a purer understanding of the simplicity of coffee. The shape of the fan is inspired by the morning sun as well as Japanese simplicity. Every morning, this fan can be opened by moving the handles downwards to push the coffee through the machine and into the cup.

Tools used Woodworking, Cinema 4D

Target groupCoffee lovers who value simplicity, sustainability, and a mindful, manual brewing ritual.
