CRYSTAL CAVE

Interface Design and Installation   .   3rd master semester

“Crystal Cave” is an installation I designed for the Museumsnacht Basel 2024 at the Natural History Museum. I was given the opportunity to creatively expand a part of the museum and introduce visitors to a world of mesmerising beauty of stones and digital enhancements. The installation consists of two interactive screens and 4 projectors that project animations on the wall. For the visualisations, animations and sounds, I experimented with various tools, including AI. On the technical side, I programmed and realised the project in Processing.

Tools usedProcessing, Figma, Midjourney, Runway, After Effects
Project goal
Temporary intervention, with the aim of making parts of the museum appear in a new light
Target group
Visitors of the museum night

In this interactive installation, visitors use a touchscreen to select one of six minerals. This triggers a 60-second projection with matching sound, transforming the room into a mesmerizing crystal cave. Four beamers display dynamic patterns inspired by the chosen stone.

To select and trigger the projections, the visitor can choose one of 6 mineral stones on a touchscreen.
The interface was designed and technically realised by me to run reliably throughout the entire museum night.
